Wind Generation Modelling for a Power-to-X Techno-Economic Optimization in oemof

I contributed to a feasibility study assessing whether a Power-to-Gas system, combined with an existing biogas plant, could economically produce grid-compatible synthetic natural gas. Two potential wind-development areas and different turbine configurations were evaluated as possible sources of renewable electricity.
My primary responsibility was the modelling of the wind generation profiles used as input for the project’s oemof optimisation. I processed hourly wind data from the German Weather Service’s COSMO-REA6 reanalysis model, selected the nearest model-grid points for the proposed turbine locations and interpolated the wind-vector components to the respective hub heights. The resulting wind speeds were converted into hourly power-generation time series using the manufacturer power curves of the considered Enercon turbine types.
The development and detailed evaluation of the oemof model were outside my main scope. However, I was involved in the overall modelling process and contributed to the interpretation of the project results and the preparation of the final feasibility report.
