Development of a German Transmission Network Model with TYNDP Data in Integral

PeriodOctober 2021 — February 2023
Organisation / contextumlaut energy GmbH · Part of Accenture · Intern Project

Idea and context

We created an independent basis for transmission-grid modelling studies beyond project-specific network models supplied by transmission system operators. The completed model enabled umlaut energy to conduct transmission-grid simulations independently for the first time.

Modelling approach

The project established a consistent German transmission-network model in Integral using Ten-Year Network Development Plan (TYNDP) data. Network data were reviewed, structured and prepared through Python-based workflows by me. An electricity-market scenario based on the German Federal Government’s Easter Package 2022 was parameterised as part of the model setup. The resulting network representation was geographically visualised with QGIS and transferred into Integral by me. Troubleshooting and convergence in Integral were no longer part of my role, but I was still involved in those tasks.
