Benchmarking of High-Power Charging Infrastructure
Assessment approach
As part of the 2021 charging-network benchmark conducted by umlaut and connect, I carried out a multi-day field test using an Audi e-tron 55 quattro. I drove from Aachen via Frankfurt to Munich and visited predefined high-power charging locations along the route. At each site, I tested and documented the complete charging experience, including accessibility, signage, station availability, charging reliability, usability, payment options, app functionality and customer support. I focused particularly on the E.ON Drive and Shell Recharge ecosystems and compared the accuracy of their real-time information and the usability of their applications. The collected observations contributed to the comparative assessment of charge point operators and e-mobility providers published by connect.
