Regional Hydrogen Infrastructure Assessment for Regensburg–Kelheim
Regional infrastructure assessment
I contributed as part of a three-person research team assessing the prospective role of hydrogen in the Kelheim–Regensburg region. Our work focused on consolidating fragmented information from industry, municipalities, political planning documents and infrastructure stakeholders into a coherent scientific assessment.
We collected and evaluated company demand declarations, stakeholder questionnaires, municipal heat-planning documents, regional energy data and existing hydrogen-policy scenarios. These sources were used to estimate potential hydrogen demand for 2030, 2035 and 2040 and to identify sectors in which hydrogen could realistically support industrial decarbonisation and regional energy supply. A central part of the work involved reconciling different assumptions and placing individual declarations within a transparent scientific and regional context.
Network planning and gas-network simulations were not part of our scope. These analyses were carried out by the participating network operators. My contribution was the research-based preparation, interpretation and synthesis of the underlying political, municipal and industrial data used in the broader infrastructure study and its published project documentation.
