Analysis of German Transmission Network Expansion Projects
Internal Consulting Objective
This internal consulting project analysed the progress of German transmission-network expansion based on publicly available monitoring reports published by the German Federal Network Agency. The objective was to create a comprehensive longitudinal view of individual line projects and identify recurring delays, regional bottlenecks and critical planning or approval stages.
When I took over the project, an existing database already covered the monitoring reports up to approximately 2017. I extended and completed the dataset for the subsequent reporting years until 2022, recording each individual transmission-line project and its sections, including planned and completed kilometres, construction progress and the respective planning, approval or implementation stage.
Once the historical dataset had been completed, I developed a Power BI analysis to identify patterns and weaknesses across projects, regions and procedural stages. The resulting insights supported umlaut’s internal consulting and business-development activities by showing where transmission-system operators and individual expansion projects were experiencing the greatest implementation challenges.
